Becoming an Open Water Diver

There are some basic requirements for diver certification which are:

  • Good level of fitness (ie. be able to swim 200m, tread water for 10 minutes)
  • You must be 15 years or older
  • Not be a sufferer of asthma
  • Be able to pass a Dive Medical

As easy as 1 2 3

Step 1: Evening 1

Back to school for theory on diving and safe dive practices.

Starts at 6.00pm on the Friday.

Step 2: Day 2 and 3

Into the pool for your first breath underwater and a thorough grounding on the equipment and techniques you will use as a certified diver. These days also incorporate theory sessions in the a.m.

Typically 9-5 Sat and Sun.

Step 3: Day 4 and 5

Take to the high seas for 4 ocean dives conducted over two days.

Typically the following weekend at Leigh/Goat Island.

So, when does the next course Start?

Another weekend course, this one starts on the 14th of August, a Friday, with pool and theory on the 15th and 16th.

Ocean diving will be the weekend after the next weekend, the 29th and 30th of August.

 

Dates for Open Water courses;
 

October 9th,10th and 11th pool and theory, October 17th and 18th open water.

October 30th, 31st and 1st November pool and theory, November 7th and 8th open water.

November 13th 14th and 15th pool and theory, November 21st and 22nd open water.

November 27th 28th and 29th pool and theory, December 5th and 6th open water.

December 11th 12th 13th pool and theory, December 19th and 20th open water.

 

What's included?

  • PADI Go Dive manual, RDP tables and log book
  • 5 dive theory modules
  • 5 confined water training modules
  • 4 open water dives at an ocean destination
  • Pool usage
  • Use of SCUBA gear and wetsuit for the duration of the course (mask, snorkel, fins & booties not included)
  • PADI Open Water Diver certification card and wall certificate on completion

You provide:

  • Diving Medical (NZ standards)
  • Pen and paper
  • Transport to dive site
  • Mask, snorkel, fins & booties (package specials available in store)
  • Swimwear and towel
